Research center focuses on robotics for human  (visite count : 3055)

As the newest site in the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Industry & University Cooperative Research Program (I/UCRC) for Safety, Security, and Rescue Research Center (SSR-RC), The University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC) is the only center focused on robotic technologies for human safety in the material handling, manufacturing and healthcare industries.

The UNCC center is seeking to partner in research with manufacturing and material handling industry stakeholders. Manufacturing and material handling partners can join the UNCC SSR-RC as members to leverage and expand their investment in robots (AGV's, for example) for automating assembly and material handling processes.

The UNC Charlotte SSR-RC assists site members to conduct multi-disciplinary research on computation-driven robotic and sensor systems augmented by big data analysis to improve the safety, capability and well-being of their assembly and material handling employees.

The UNC Charlotte SSR-RC Mission
  • To collaborate with industry on developing material handling, manufacturing and healthcare technologies through research partnerships
  • To do research that matters. For example, coordinating AGV's in the presence of dynamic obstacles to improve human safety
  • To leverage and expand SSR-RC members' investment
  • To train exceptional talent for you to hire

If your company is interested in participating or learning more, please contact Marilyn Carpenter ( or visit the UNC Charlotte SSR-RC web site.

I/UCRC, is a NSF funded consortium of companies and universities working together on industry-relevant research in an emerging field. Currently there are approximately 50 I/UCRCs, all administered by the Engineering Education and Centers Division of NSF's Engineering Directorate. More than 750 faculty members, along with some 750 graduate students and 200 undergraduate students, carry out the research at these Centers, which encompass almost the entire spectrum of current technological fields. A primary purpose of the I/UCRC Program is providing high-quality interdisciplinary education. The Centers have produced several thousand M.S. and Ph.D. graduates, who can be found throughout American industry and academe. Click here to learn more.
